october

the road was called october
lane. and we lived on labels,
address on pages, papers bound with
a spiral revolving us away
and tying us down.

capture the world on a post card.

I will send them to you,
from far away. you can follow me
through the months and days
(or until you want to fall away.)
through scrawled lines and
etched sunsets on cheaply
scanned cardstock,
a silhouette of cityscapes that
would look much less lonely
with your hand in mine.

can you find me from
a mile or a dream away?
a step in time? can, can you
walk down the lane?
it’s october, and i’m more than cold
with chattering teeth tonight.
